Description
Ranworth, a parish in Norfolk, on a lake or "broad" communicating with the river Bure, 3 3/4 miles NW of Acle, and 5 1/2 NE by N of Brundall station on the Norwich and Yarmouth section of the G.E.R. Post town, Norwich; money order office, South Walsham; telegraph office, Woodbastwick. Acreage, with Panxworth, 2235 of land and 222 of water; population of the united parishes, 415; of the ecclesiastical parish of Banworth, 291; of Panxworth, with Woodbastwick, 388. There is a parish council for the parishes of Ranworth and Panxworth consisting of seven members. The manor, with Banworth Hall, belongs to the Kerrison family. The Priory is a chief residence. There is a large mailing establishment. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Norwich; gross value, £186 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Norwich. The church is a fine edifice of flint in the Gothic style of the 15th century, and has a very beautiful rood-screen.
