Rackheath, Norfolk

Description
Rackheath, a village and a parish in Norfolk. The village stands 4 1/4 miles NE by N of Norwich, and 2 W of Salhouse station on the Norwich and Cromer branch of the G.E.R., and has a post office under Norwich; money order office, Sprowston; telegraph office, Old Catton. The parish was originally two parishes, called Great Rackheath and Little Rackheath. Acreage, 2000; population, 324. Rackheath Hall, the seat of the Stracey family, is a fine mansion standingin the midst of a well-timbered park of about 250 acres. The manor, with most of the land, belongs to the Stracey family. Rackheath Park is a chief residence. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich; net value, £315. The church, which stands half a mile from the village, is a building of flint and stone in the Perpendicular style, consisting of nave, S aisle, chancel, S porch, and western tower. There was anciently a small priory.
