Description
Norton Subcourse, a village and a parish in Norfolk. The village stands 2 miles S of the river Yare, 3 1/2 SSW of Reedham station on the Norwich and Lowestoft section of the G.E.R,, and 3 E of Loddon, and is a widely scattered place. It has a post and money order office under Norwich; telegraph office, Loddon. The parish comprises 1903 acres; population, 348. The parish council consists of seven members and a chairman. There are two manors in the parish, one of which belongs to the Bacon family and the other to the Bowyer-Smyths. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Norwich; net value, £123 with residence. The church is an ancient building of flint in the Early English style, and has a round tower containing six bells. There are a Primitive Methodist chapel and some small charities.
