Newton Flotman, Norfolk

Newton Flotman, a parish, with a village, in Norfolk, on a branch of the river Yare, adjacent to the G.E.R., 1 mile NE of Flordon station, and 3 1/2 miles N by E of Long Stratton. It took the latter part of its name from a " note " or ferry on the river. It has a post office under Norwich; money order and telegraph office, Long Stratton. Acreage, 1200 ; population of the civil parish, 246 ; of the ecclesiastical, with Swainsthorpe, 521. The living is a rectory, annexed to the rectory of Swainsthorpe, in the diocese of Norwich; joint net value, £227 with residence. The church is a building of flint and stone, dating in part from 1300; consists of nave and chancel, with S porch and a fine embattled western tower; and contains a fine brass monument of the Blondevilles.
