Description
Kirby Bedon, a parish, with a village, in Norfolk, near the river Tare, 3 miles SE of Norwich, and 2 1/2 SE from Trowse station on the G.E.R. Post town, Norwich; money order and telegraph office, Trowse. Acreage, 1395; population, 330. The Hall was an ancient mansion, and only the kitchens of it now remain and are inhabited by labouring people. The parish comprises two ancient parishes-St Andrew and St Mary, the population of St Andrew being 159, and of St Mary 171. The living of St Andrew is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich; gross value, £259 with residence. The living of St Mary is a vicarage. The church of St Andrew stands on an eminence, is a building of stone and flint in the Perpendicular style, consists of chancel, nave, S porch, and an embattled western tower, and contains an ancient sculpture and monuments of the Brookes. St Mary's Church is now an ivy-clad ruin.
