Description
Erpingham, a village and a parish in Norfolk. The parish is in Aylsham union, and lies on the river Bure, 3 1/4 miles NNE from Aylsham station on the G.E.R. It has a post office under Norwich; money order and telegraph office, Han-worth. Acreage, 1400; population, 383. The manor belonged to the Erpinghams or Hapurgans, one of whom fought at Agincourt. The living is a rectory, annexed to the rectory of Blickling, in the diocese of Norwich; joint net yearly value, £294 with residence. The church is a fine building of flint and stone, in the Early English style, and contains a painted rood screen, brass effigies of the Erpinghams of date 1370, and three brasses of later dates. There is a Reformed Methodist chapel.
