Tathwell, a parish, with a village and two hamlets, in Lincolnshire, 3 miles SSW of Louth, and 1 1/4 S from Hallington station on the Lincoln and Louth branch of the G.N.R. It has a post office under Louth. Acreage, 4356; population, 420. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. Tathwell Manor, with most of the land, belongs to the Chaplin family. Tathwell Hall is a fine modern mansion standing amidst pleasant and extensive grounds. Cadwell Manor, with Cadwell Hall, belongs to the Allenby family. Six tumuli are on Bully Hill, and traces of an ancient camp, said to have been formed during the conflicts of the Saxons with the Danes, are on Orgarth Hill. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lincoln; net value, £274 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Lincoln. The church is a small plain building of red brick and stone of Norman date, consisting of chancel, nave, and an embattled western tower. A vestry was added in 1881, and the inside of the church was thoroughly restored in 1889. There is a Free Methodist chapel. The hamlets are Cadwell and Dovendale, and they are situated respectively about 2 miles and 1 mile west of the village.
