Scartho, a parish, with a village, in Lincolnshire, 2 miles S by W of Great Grimsby, which is the nearest railway station. It has a post office under Grimsby; telegraph office, Grimsby. Acreage, 1252; population, 190. The manor belongs to the Earl of Yarborough. The reservoir of the Grimsby Waterworks Company stands within the parish. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lincoln; gross value, £280 with residence. Patron, Jesus College, Cambridge. The church is an ancient and interesting building of stone partly in the Early Decorated style, with Saxon portions, consisting of chancel, nave, and an embattled western tower. There are Primitive Methodist and Wesleyan chapels.
