Claypole, Lincolnshire

Claypole, a village and a parish in Lincolnshire. The parish lies on the river Witham and the G.N.R., contiguous to Notts, 4 1/2 miles SE of Newark, and has a station on the railway, and a post office under Newark; money order office, Balderton; telegraph office, Claypole station. Acreage, '2915; population, 593. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lincoln; gross yearly value, c£400 with residence. The church is a fine structure of various character, with tower and spire. There are Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist chapels. The Newark workhouse is here.
