Cawkwell, Lincolnshire

Cawkwell, a parish in Lincolnshire, 3 miles SW from Donington-upon-Bain station on the G.N.R., and 7 N of Horncastle, which is the post town; money order office, Scamblesby; telegraph office, Louth. Acreage, 687; population of the parish, 39; of the ecclesiastical with Scamblesby, 364. The living is a vicarage consolidated with that of Scamblesby, in the diocese of Lincoln; joint net yearly value, £39 with residence, in the gift of the Bishop of Lincoln and the Earl of Yarborough alternately. The church was pulled down (under a faculty) in 1893, and the materials used in the restoration of Scamblesby church. Previous to its being pulled down the church had not been used for some years, and was consequently falling into decay.
