Sutton Cheney, a village, a township, and a chapelry in Market Bosworth parish, Leicestershire, 1 1/2 mile E from Shenton station on the M.R. and L. & N.W.R.. and 2 miles S by E from Market Bosworth, with a post office under Nuneaton; money order and telegraph office, Market Bosworth. Acreage, 1697; population, 239. Redmoor Plain, the site of the battle of Bosworth Field, fought 22 Aug., 1485, is near the village. The manor belongs to the Stewart family. Bricks are made. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Peterborough; gross value, £240. The church is a building of stone, chiefly in the Early English style, consisting of a beautiful chancel, nave, S aisle, and a western tower. It has some interesting tombs and monuments. Simpson the mathematician is buried here. There are several almshouses.
