Description
Shenton, a township and a chapelry, with a village, in Market Bosworth parish, Leicestershire, 2 1/2 miles SW from Market Bosworth, and 5 N by W from Nuneaton. The township is near the Ashby-de-la-Zouch Canal, and has a station on the Ashby and Nuneaton branch of the M.R. and L. & N.W.R. It has a post office under Nuneaton; money order and telegraph office, Market Bosworth. Acreage, 1547; population, 201. The manor, with Shenton Hall, an ancient mansion in the Tudor style standing in a pleasant park, belongs to the Wollaston family. The living is a chapelry, annexed with Barleston to the rectory of Market Bosworth. The church was rebuilt in 1862, and is a cruciform building of stone in the Gothic style.
