Description
Knipton, a parish, with a pleasant village, in Leicestershire, on the river Devon, 5 miles W from Harby station on the G.N. and L. & N.W. Joint railways, and 7 SW of Grant-ham. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Grantham. Acreage, 1271; population, 328. The manor belongs to the Duke of Rutland. The reservoir of the Grant-ham Canal covers 90 acres; and there are also kennels, for sixty couples of foxhounds. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; gross yearly value, ., £295. Patron, the Duke of Rutland. The church is an ancient building of stone in the Gothic style. There is a Baptist chapel, and also a few small charities.
