Description
Desford, a village and an ecclesiastical parish in Market Bosworth division, Leicestershire. The village stands near the M.R., 5 miles E from Market Bosworth, and has a station on the railway, and a post and money order office under Leicester; telegraph office, the railway station. The parish includes also the hamlet of Barrens Park. Acreage, 2502 ; population, 794. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough ; value, £126 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is a large edifice in the Decorated style, with a conspicuous spire; it was restored in 1884. There are Baptist and Calvinistic chapels.
