Description
Unsworth, a hamlet and an ecclesiastical parish in Prestwich parish, Lancashire, 1 1/2 mile NNE of Whitefield railway station. There is a post office under Manchester; money order office, Hollins; telegraph office, Whitefield. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1885, and contains the hamlets of Blackford and Hollins. Population, 2285. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester; gross value, about £200 with residence. Patron, the Rector of Prestwich. The church was rebuilt in 1842, and is a plain building consisting of chancel, nave, and bell-turret. There are Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist chapels.
