Description
Tonge, a township and an ecclesiastical parish in Prestwich parish, Lancashire. The township lies around Middleton railway station, adjacent to the SE side of Middleton. The ecclesiastical parish includes Alkrington township, and was constituted in 1842. Population, 6171. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester; net value, £300 with residence. Patron, the Rector of Prestwich. The church was built in 1839, and consists of chancel, nave, and bell turret.
