Description
Ribbleton, a township and an ecclesiastical parish, mostly within the county borough of Preston, Lancashire, 2 miles NE of Preston. There is a post, money order, and telegraph office at Ribbleton Lane (T.S.O.) under Preston. Acreage of township, 649; population, 838. The parish was constituted in 1883 out of the parishes of Lancaster and Preston. Population, 1080. For parish council purposes the portion of the township of Ribbleton outside the borough of Preston is joined to the township of Elston. Ribbleton Hall is a chief residence. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester ; gross value, £150. The church was erected in 1889, is in the Decorated style, and consists of nave and two transepts. The Preston Cemetery (45 acres in extent) and the Preston pleasure grounds (40 acres, laid out in 1885) are in this township.
