Description
Kearsley, a village and a township in Deane parish, Lancashire. The village stands adjacent to the Manchester and Bolton railway, near the Bolton Canal, 4 miles SE of Bolton. Its nearest station is Stoneclough on the L. & Y.R., half a mile distant, and it has a post office, called Kearsley Moor, under Manchester; money order and telegraph office, Stonedough. The township comprises 9 97 acres; population, 7993. There are extensive coal mines and various manufacturing establishments. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester; gross value, £276. Patron, the Vicar of Fam-worth-cnm-Kearsley. In 1870-71 a church was erected on Kearsley Moor.
