Edgeworth, Lancashire

Description
Edgeworth, a township in Lancashire, lying 5 miles NNE of Bolton and half a mile from Turton station, on the L. & Y.R. It has a post office under Bolton; money order and telegraph office, Turton. Acreage, 2925 ; population, 1861. There are cotton and manufacturing mills, stone quarries, a school church, a Congregational chapel of 1822, and a Wesleyan chapel of 1863. There is a Children's Home, established in 1872 for needy and forlorn orphans, who are admitted from any district without election. A farmstead is connected with the home, and the boys are trained in agriculture. Edgeworth, Entwistle, Quarlton, and part of the township of Turton comprise the parish of Turton.
