Description
Hadley, a township and an ecclesiastical parish in Wellington civil parish, Salop. The township stands near the Shropshire Union Canal, 2 1/2 miles E of Wellington, and has a station on the Stafford and Shrewsbury branch of the L. & N.W.E., and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Wellington. There are ironworks. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1858, and includes Horton and part of Haybridge. Population, 2307. Hadley Park is the chief residence. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lichfield; gross value, £282 with residence. Patrons, the Bishop of Lichfield and trustees. The church is good, and there are Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist chapels.
