Description
Vowchurch, a village and a parish in Herefordshire. Tha village lies on the river Dore, 7 miles NW of Pontrilas, and 10 W by S of Hereford. It has a station on the Golden Valley railway, and a post office (R.S.O.); money order office, Peterchurch; telegraph office, Pontrilas. The parish includes the hamlets of Monnington and Straddle. Acreage, 2716; population, 311. There is a parish council consisting of five members. White House and Poston Lodge are the chief residences. There is an ancient camp. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Hereford; net value, £141 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Worcester. The church is ancient, and has an oak Jacobean screen and a massive oak roof of the same date. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel.
