Pembridge, Herefordshire

Description
Pembridge, a village and a parish in Herefordshire. The village stands on the river Arrow, 7 miles W of Leominster; was formerly a market-town; is nominally a borough governed by a high bailiff; and has a station on the Leominster and Kington branch of the G.W.R., and a post, money order, and telegraph office (R.S.O.) A hiring fair is held on 13 May. The parish comprises 7074 acres ; population, 1129. There is a parish council consisting of thirteen members. The manors belonged anciently to the Mortimers. Moor Court, Broxwood Court, and Byletts are the chief residences. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Hereford; net value, £494 with residence. The church is of the 13th and 14th centuries, and a wooden bell-tower stands near it. The chancel was restored in 1871. There is a chapel of ease at Moor Court, and there are also Roman Catholic, Congregational, Primitive Methodist, and Wesleyan chapels, and alms-houses.
