Knill, a parish in Herefordshire, on the river Lugg, at the boundary with Radnorshire, and on Offa's Dyke, 3 1/2 miles SW by S of Presteign, and 4 NNW of Kington. Post town, Kington; money order and telegraph office, Presteign. Acreage, 819; population, 88. The manor has belonged for centuries to the Knill and Walsham families. Knill Court, a large Elizabethan mansion, is the chief residence. Th& living is a rectory in the diocese of Hereford; gross value, £74 with residence. The church stands in the beautiful grounds of Knill Court, is ancient and ivy-clad, and has a tower, with a wooden spire; it was restored in 1876. Sir Samuel Romilly was buried here.
