Ganarew, Herefordshire

Description
Ganarew, a parish in the county of Hereford, on the verge of the county, under Little Doward Hill, near the river Wye, 3 1/2 miles NNE of Monmouth. Post town and telegraph office, Monmouth; money order office, Whitchurch. Acreage, 848; population, 148. It includes the hamlet of Crocker's Ash. Sellersbrook, Wyaston Leys, and Doward House are chief residences. On the summit of Little Doward Hill is an observatory 70 feet high, from the top of which a view is obtained of the Bristol Channel. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Hereford; net value, £78. Patron, Oriel College, Oxford. The church, originally a frame wattle building, was rebuilt about 1844.
