Bosbury, Herefordshire

Description
Bosbury, a village and a parish in Herefordshire. The village stands on the river Leadon, under the Malvern Hills, 4 1/2 miles N by W of Ledbury, under which it lias a post office, and at which is the telegraph office. The parish includes the townships of Bosbury, Upleadon, and Catley. Acreage, 4825; population, 916. Old Court, now used as a farmhouse, was once a seat of the Bishops of Hereford. There are many ancient timber houses in the village. Bosbury House and Temple Court are the chief residences. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Hereford; gross value, £318. Patron, the Bishop of Hereford. The church is Transition Norman and Perpendicular, with a massive detached tower; it contains a nne oak screen, and monuments to the Harford and Brydges families, and was restored in 1871. There are a Wesleyan chapel and an endowed grammar school.
