Avenbury, Herefordshire

Description
Avenbury, a parish in Herefordshire, on the river Frome, 2 1/2 miles SSE of Bromyard. It includes the hamlets of Munderfield Row and Upper Hopton, and a detached tract, situated near Bredenbury; and its post town is Bromyard under Worcester. Acreage, 2912; population of the civil parish, 306; of the ecclesiastical, 332. Birchyfield is the chief residence. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Hereford; net value, £105. The church is an ancient edifice, which was restored in 1881. In the chancel is a slab of sandstone with the figure of a knight in armour, dating from about 1260.
