Description
Widley, a parish in Hants, under Portsdown Hill, 1 1/2 mile N by E of Cosham station on the L. & S.W.R., and 4 miles NNE of Portsmouth. It includes Potwell hamlet and the greater part of Cosham, the latter of which has a post, money order, and telegraph office, designated Cosham. Acreage, 1048; population of the civil parish, 1350; of the ecclesiastical, with Wymering, 2438. The parishes of Widley and Wymering have been united for parish council purposes under the designation of Cosham, and have a parish council consisting of twelve members. The living is a rectory, united with Wymering, in the diocese of Winchester; net value, £320 with residence. The church is a plain building of flint in the Norman style, and was rebuilt in 1849.
