Wallop, Nether, a parish in Hants, 4 miles WNW of Stockbridge, and 4 from Grateley station on the L. & S.W.R. It has a post office of the name of Lower Wallop under Winchester. Acreage, 7391; population, 770. There is a parish council of six members. Wallop Fields are identified by Dr Guest with the Gualoppum of Nennius, one of the last battlefields of Vortigem with the Saxons. At Danebury in this parish are training grounds for racehorses, and adjoining is the Stockbridge racecourse. Danebury Hill is crowned with an ancient camp. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Winchester; net value, £200 with residence. Patrons, the Vicars Choral in York Cathedral, The church is an ancient and massive structure of flint with a western tower. There is a Wesleyan Methodist chapel.
