Holybourne, Hampshire

Description
Holybourne, a village and a parish in Hants. The village stands on the river Wey, 1 mile NE of Alton station on the L. & S.W.R., and has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Alton. The parish includes also the tithing of Neatham. Acreage, 1405; population of the civil parish, 587; of the ecclesiastical, 689. Holybourne Lodge is a chief residence. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Winchester; value, £300. Patrons, the Dean and chapter of Winchester. The church is old but good, and was thoroughly restored in 1879. An endowed school has about £230 a year, and serves, in certain proportions, for the parishes of Holybourne, Alton, Binstead, and Froyle. There are Wesleyan and Presbyterian chapels.
