Description
Stowell, a parish in Gloucestershire, on the river Coin, 2 miles SW of Northleach, and 3 NE of Chedworth station on the Midland and South-Western Junction railway. Post town, Cheltenham; money order and telegraph office, Northleach. Acreage, 851; population, 83. The manor gave the title of Baron to the first Earl of Eldon. Stowell Park, th& seat of the Earl of Eldon, is an ancient mansion, and has been restored. The living is a rectory, annexed to Hampnett. The church is a small ancient edifice consisting of chancel, nave, and S transept.
