Standish, a parish in Gloucestershire, 1 mile SSW of Haresfield station on the M.R., and 5 miles NW of Stroud. Post town, Stonehouse; telegraph office, Haresfield. Acreage, 3211; population of the civil parish, 458; of the ecclesiastical, with Hardwicke, 1093. There is a parish council of five members. The manor belongs to Lord Sherborne. Standish House is the chief residence. The living is a vicarage, united with Hardwicke, in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol; joint net value, £310 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Gloucester and Bristol. The church is Decorated, and has a fine E window and a graceful spire of 1348 date. It was closely connected with a Benedictine house, of which very interesting rains stand close by.
