Description
Norton, a village and a parish in Gloucestershire. The village stands 1 1/4 mile ESE of the river Severn, and 4 1/2 miles NNE of Gloucester. It was formerly called Nortune, and has a post office under Gloucester; money order office, Gloucester ; telegraph office, Coombe Hill. The parish comprises 1971 acres; population, 354. Norton Court is the chief residence. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol; gross value, £245 with residence. Patrons, The Dean and Chapter of Bristol. The church consists of nave and chancel, with porch and tower, and was restored in 1876. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
