Description
Highnam, Over, and Linton, a parish in Gloucestershire. It lies near the river Severn, 2 miles WNW of Gloucester, and has a post office under Gloucester; money order and telegraph office, Gloucester. Acreage, 2039; population, 313. Highnam Court was built by a pupil of Inigo Jones for Colonel Cooke, an adherent of Cromwell, passed to the baronet family of Guise, and now belongs to the Gambier Parry family. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1851, and includes the hamlets of Over and Linton. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol; gross value, £118 with residence. The church is modern and good, and consists of nave, aisles, and chancel, with tower and lofty spire.
