Description
Willingale Spain, a parish in Essex, contiguous to Willingale Doe. It belonged at one time to the family of De Hispania, whence its name. Post town, Ongar; money order office, Ongar; telegraph office, Fyfield. Acreage, 1221; population, 215. The manor belongs to the Brocket family, who are chief landowners. Spains Hall is a chief residence. The living is a rectory in the diocese of St Albans; net value, £200 with residence. Patron, the Crown on the nomination of the Bishop of St Albans. The church, which stands in the same churchyard with that of Willingale Doe, is a small building in the Early English style, with Norman nave and Perpendicular chancel. There is a beautiful Perpendicular font.
