Description
Woodland, a township in Cockfield parish, Durham, 4 1/2 miles NE of Barnard Castle station on the N.E.R., with a post and money order office under Butterknowle (R.S.O.); telegraph office, Butterknowle. Acreage, 2885; population, 694. Lord Barnard is lord of the manor. There are a Wesleyan chapel, a small cemetery formed in 1883, and a colliery.
