Description
Greencroft, a township in Lanchester parish, Durham, 1 3/4 mile N of Lanchester. Post town, Durham; money order and telegraph office, Annfield Plain. Acreage, 2367; population, 1887. Greencroft Park is a large mansion, built by the Claverings, and was the place where Lady Catherine Graye, daughter of the Earl of Westmoreland, was arrested in 1598 on suspicion of treason. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel.
