Fulwell, Durham

Description
Fulwell, a small village and a township in Monk Wear-mouth parish, Durham, on the coast, and on the Newcastle and Sunderland railway, 1 1/2 mile NNW of Sunderland. Acreage, 648 ; population, 1006. There arc extensive limestone quarries. A human skeleton, 9 1/4 feet long, with two Roman coins near its right hand, was found in a bank of earth at Fulwell Hill in 1759. The Fulwell waterworks and the Monk Wearmouth cemetery are in this township. There is a Congregational mission room.
