Description
Denton, a village and a township, forming a parish with Houghton-le-Side, in Durham, on a branch of the river Skerne, 1 1/4 mile N of Pierce Bridge station on the N.E.R., and 5 NW hy W of Darlington. Post town, Conniscliffe, under Darlington. Acreage, 987; population, 114. Lord Barnard is lord of the manor and sole landowner. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Durham; net value, £110 with residence. Patron, the Vicar of Gainsford. The church is good, and was rebuilt in 1890.
