Description
Evershot, a village and a parish in Dorsetshire. The village stands near the head of the river Frome, and has a station on the G.W.R., 148 miles from London, and 8 S by E of Yeovil. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Dorchester. The parish comprises 1569 acres; population, 371. The living is a rectory, annexed to the rectory of Frome St Quintin and Melbury Bubb, in the diocese of Salisbury; net value, £400 with residence. Patron, the Earl of Ilchester. The church is built in the style of the early part of the 15th century, and was restored in 1853.
Parish Church
The church of St. Osmund, restored with the exception of the tower and chancel, in 1853, is of Forest marble, with dressings of Ham Hill stone, in the Gothic style of the Early 15th century, and consists of chancel, nave of three bays, aisles, south porch, and a western tower, containing a clock and 6 bells: the stained east window is a memorial to the late Mr. Martin and his wife: the church has 300 sittings.
The register dates from the year 1694.
