Description
Holme, East, a parish in Dorsetshire, on the river Frome, U miles SW by W of Wareham station on the L. & S.W.E. Post town, Wareham. Acreage, 1070; population, 90. A small priory, a cell to Montacute Abbey, was founded in the time of Edward I. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury, gross value,, £50. The church was built in 1866.
Parish Church
The church of St. John the Evangelist, erected in 1866 by Nathaniel Bond esq, is a building of stone and Purbeck marble in the Early English style, and consists of chancel, nave, south porch and a western turret containing one bell: the paintings on the interior walls were all executed by Lady Selina Bond: all the windows are stained: there are 70 sittings : in the churchyard is an ornamental cross to the memory of a child of Nathaniel Bond esq.
The register dates from the year 1866.
