Beer Hackett, Dorset

Description
Beer-Hackett, a parish in Dorsetshire, near Yetminstcr station on the G.W.R., 5 miles SE by S of Yeovil. It includes the hamlet of Knighton, and its post town is Yetminster, under Sherborne, which is the money order and telegraph office. Acreage, 918; population, 85. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury; gross value, £180. The church is a stone building in the Perpendicular style, rebuilt in 1882.

Parish Church
The church of St Michael is a stone building in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, south porch, and a western tower containing 3 bells: the stained east window is a memorial to the Rev. Frank Newington B.A. vicar of Osmington, who died October 10, 1877: the church was rebuilt in 1882, with the exception of the tower, at a cost of £1,100, and in 1897 the tower was rebuilt at a cost of £570; there are 100 sittings.

The parish register dates from the year 1549.
