Description
Stoke-in-Teignhead, a parish, with a village and four hamlets, in Devonshire, on the coast, 3 miles SSW of Teignmouth station on the G.W.R. It has a post office under Teignmouth; money order office, Combe-in-Teignhead; telegraph office, Shaldon. Acreage, 2167; population of the civil parish, 511; of the ecclesiastical, 631. There is a parish council consisting of eight members. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Exeter; net value, £320 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Exeter. The church is ancient, was once collegiate, and has been both enlarged and restored. There are Bible Christian and Brethren chapels.
