Sourton, Devon

Description
Sourton, a parish, with a few small hamlets, in Devonshire, 5 miles SW of Okehampton station on the L. & S.W.R. Post town and money order office, Bridestow; telegraph office, Bridestow railway station. Acreage, 5046; population, 448. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The ecclesiastical parish was separated from Bridestow in 1889, and made into a separate parish. The living is a perpetual curacy; net value, £230. Patron, the Bishop of Exeter. The church is partly of 13th century date, and was partly rebuilt in 1847. There are Wesleyan and Baptist chapels.
