Description
Pyworthy, a village and a parish in Devonshire. The village stands near the Bude Canal, 2 1/2 miles WSW of Holsworthy station on the L. & S.W.R. The parish contains also the hamlets of Derriton and Killatree, and has a post office under Holsworthy; money order and telegraph office, Holsworthy. Acreage, 5700 ; population of the civil parish. 495; of the ecclesiastical, 467. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Exeter; commuted tithe rent charge, £370 with residence. The church is Later English, and has a lofty tower; it was thoroughly restored in 1885. There are Wesleyan and Bible Christian chapels.
