Description
Kelly, a parish in Devonshire, near the river Tamar and the boundary with Cornwall, 3 miles SSE of Lifton station on the G.W.R., and 6 SE by E of Launceston. Post town, Lifton. Acreage, 1773; population, 236. The property, with Kelly House, belongs to the Kelly family, and has belonged to this family since the time of Henry II. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Exeter; value, £260 with residence. The church is Later English, comprises nave, aisle, and chancel, with a tower, has good ancient stained glass, and includes the mortuary chapel of the Kellys. The chancel arch is of freestone of 1256 date, and the monolithic pillars of grey granite are said to be of the 14th century.
