Description
Cheriton Fitzpaine, a parish in Devonshire. The parish lies on an affluent of the river Creedy, 5 1/2 miles NE by N of Crediton station on the L. & S.W.R., and has a post office under Crediton. Acreage, 4855; population of the civil parish, 699 ; of the ecclesiastical, 766. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Exeter; net value, £738 with residence. The church is Perpendicular English, consists of nave, aisles,. chancel, and chantry chapel, and has a beautiful groined porch, a piscina, and a monument of 1691. It was restored in 1885. There are Congregational and Bible Christian chapels, and some almshouses.
