Description
Wilne, a liberty and a parish in Derbyshire. The liberty lies on the river Derwent, 1 1/2 mile SE of Draycott station on the M.R., and 7 ESE of Derby, and bears the name of Church Wilne or Little Wilne. Post town, Derby; money order and telegraph office, Draycott. The parish contains also Hopwell hamlet and township, Draycott liberty, and Breaston and Risley ecclesiastical parish. Draycott and Church Wilne form a joint township. (See DRAYCOTT.) Population of ecclesiastical parish of Wilne, 1080. There are cotton and lace manufactories. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Southwell; net value, £290 with residence. Patron, the Bishop. The church is ancient, in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, clerestoried nave, S aisle, S porch, and embattled western tower. It contains a very curious font and a mortuary chapel belonging to the Willoughby family. There are Primitive Methodist and Wesleyan chapels at Draycott.
