Description
Normanton, a parish in Derbyshire, on the M.R., adjacent to Ryknield Street, 2 miles S by W of Derby. It has a post and telegraph office under Derby; money order office, Pear Tree. Acreage, 1181; population, 1186. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. Lord Donington is lord of the manor. A part of this parish, colloquially called. New Normanton, was added to the municipal borough of Derby in 1890, and by an order in Council was separated from Normanton and added to the parish of St Chad, Derby. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Southwell; gross value, £209 with residence. The church was rebuilt in 1862, is in the Early English and Perpendicular styles, and consists of nave, S aisle, and chancel, with tower and spire. There is a Congregational chapel.
