Description
Kirk Ireton, a village, a township, and a parish in Derbyshire. The village lies about 2 miles from Idridgehay station on the M.K., and 8 NW from Belper. It has a post office under Derby; money order office, Idridgehay; telegraph office, Wirksworth. Fairs for cattle, &c., are held yearly on the second Wednesday in April and the first Wednesday after 11 Oct. Area of the township, 1952 acres; population, 514. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Southwell; net value, , £297 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Southwell. The church is an old building partly in the Norman style, and contains a handsome stained window erected in 1886; the interior was restored and reseated in 1873. There are also a Primitive Methodist chapel, a church-school erected in 1882, and numerous charities producing about £120 per annum.
