Description

Biggin, a township and an ecclesiastical parish in Derbyshire. The township is in Hartington Nether Quarter parish, and lies near the Cromford and High Park railway, 7 1/2 miles SW of Bakewell. Post town, Ashbourne, which is the money order and telegraph office. Acreage, 643 ; population of township, 112; of the ecclesiastical parish, 325. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Southwell; gross value, £164 with residence. Patron, the Duke of Devonshire. The church is modern. There are Primitive Methodist and Wesleyan chapels.
